My Reaction to Becoming a MOM

"A woman of an age in her early 20's, being quite surprised and taken back at the fact she had to come to terms with 'I AM GOING TO BE A MUM'."

I'm not sure whether this is everyone's experience being a newly pregnant lady with her number 1 child on the way, As soon as i found out i was pregnant that's when all the horror stories come flooding through, mainly about labour and how much it hurts and typically how long labour is!!!! No one ever explained how life changing and challenging becoming a mum really is, i found everyone painted such a cute picture around it all, maybe i just had such a everlasting intense birth i was in total shock?????

Does anybody else think you should get a book of instructions with your first born? Just to give you knowledge on everything you need to know.
Becoming a mum was so challenging for me, i really did take it as such a shock to the system. Maybe it was because i had already been awake for 3 days straight, i was so sleep deprived, looking back i actually wasn't with it, it was such a blur!

Fitting in your everyday house jobs of tidying, washing and keeping up with general life especially the amount of messages and calls from family and friends that you haven't yet had chance to get back to thanking them for there congratulations so now you feel SOO ignorant "I'm sure they will understand?"

Not being able to have a shower without getting someone in to watch over your baby whilst there sleeping (JUST in case they need your urgent attention), but everyone is living a normal life and working so, erm. Looks like i will just have to stay unwashed until Daddy gets home to get that 5 minutes peace and quiet on my own! - Does anyone else see a shower as 'mummy downtime' where you don't have to do anything or think about anyone else you can just be you for 5 minutes?

Nipping to the local shop to get some milk because your dying for a cup of tea, but by the time you've got to the shop it isn't just a 'nip' too and from the shop is it? Getting yourself ready, getting the baby ready, OH WAIT baby needs her bottle shes starting to wake up for her feed can i make it there and back in time before the dreaded new born cry starts? No, don't even chance it, take your shoes off, take the babies all in one off, prepare the baby's bottle, feed the baby........wind the baby..........change babies nappy.............45 minutes later! Lets put my shoes back on, baby's all in one back on, get the baby bag together, car keys, put baby in the car seat and in the car - get to the shop, get out of the car, get the car seat out, carry it into the shop, pick up the milk, struggle to carry the heaviest car seat i have ever held in my life, getting all hot and stressed because the milks nearly falling out of my hands, pay, get back into the car, seat belt the car seat in AND BREATH!

13 months later:
Where has the time gone!? I really do feel like i didn't appreciate and take each day as i should have done, it has gone so fast its scary! It only feels like yesterday my now toddler was a tiny new born innocent baby.

Anyway! Enough of my moaning about becoming a new mum your probably all thinking good gosh she hates being a mum haha! I genuinely think it is the best gift in life that you can ever be given to be able to have your own children, they fill your life full of joy and laughter everyday and the love you have for them is something you can never describe!

I am going to write a blog all about my labour in the next few days too, if you want to read that stay tuned and i will put a post over on Instagram: @paigepickering when the blog is live.

I hope you enjoyed reading my 'reaction to becoming a mum' blog, and if you have read this and it has put you off, Don't... us women are strong!!
